A MIDI controller does not produce sound on its own: it connects to a computer via USB and sends commands to the software (Ableton Live or other MIDI-compatible programs) so you can launch clips, play sounds or adjust parameters by hand. It is used in concerts with backing tracks, live electronic music sets, hybrid DJ sets, theatre with sound effects and rehearsals. Our backline catalogue includes three Akai Professional models. The Akai APC40 MKII is designed for Ableton Live, with a 5×8 grid of RGB pads for launching clips, nine faders and device control knobs. The Akai MIDImix is a compact control surface with eight channel faders, a master fader, 24 knobs (three per channel) and mute, solo and record-arm buttons. The Akai MPD218 offers 16 MPC-style pads with three banks and six assignable knobs for triggering samples, drums or effects. How to choose: if you run your live show by launching clips in Ableton, go for the APC40 MKII; if you want to mix tracks or control effects with faders, the MIDImix; if you prefer finger drumming, the MPD218. Tell us about your setup and request a quote and availability.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire a MIDI controller?
Website prices are rental prices excluding VAT: the Akai APC40 MKII costs €40, and the Akai MIDImix and the Akai MPD218 €10 each. Request a quote with your date to check availability.
Do I need a computer and software to use it?
Yes. A MIDI controller does not generate sound: it sends data via USB to a computer running compatible software, such as Ableton Live. When you request a quote, tell us which computer and software you will use so we can help you choose the right model.
