About the NTI XL2

The NTi Audio XL2 is a handheld audio and acoustic analyser that combines a sound level meter, real-time spectrum analyser (RTA), FFT, RT60 measurement, delay measurement and polarity test. It is a tool for sound engineers, production companies and promoters who need to measure and log levels or align a system. NTI XL2 hire in Madrid from Peak Entertainment gives you a professional sound level meter for a specific date without buying one, and it is also available across Spain on request.

What it is rented for

NTi presents it for sound level monitoring at live events, festivals and venues: choose a preconfigured profile, press start and the XL2 logs the levels without further input, shows a red light when the limit is exceeded and can record a compressed WAV at the same time. In installations and technical production it measures RT60, helps set up delay lines with its delay measurement and checks polarity. If you need to complete your measurement kit, the catalogue also lists the NTI M4260 microphone, the NTI Minirator MR Pro, the AZ 8930B calibrator and Rational Acoustics Smaart V9.

Key specs

  • Class 2 to IEC 61672 (Type 2 to ANSI S1.4) with the NTi M4260 microphone; measurement range 29 dB(A) to 144 dB and linear range 35 dB(A) to 144 dB, at typical microphone sensitivity
  • A, C and Z weightings simultaneously with Fast and Slow; actual SPL, Leq, Lmin, Lmax and Lpeak at once, gliding Leq (LAeq/LCeq with a 1 s to 1 h window) and 0.1 dB resolution
  • 1/1 octave RTA (8 Hz – 16 kHz) and 1/3 octave RTA (6.3 Hz – 20 kHz) conforming to class 1 of IEC 61260:2014
  • Real-time FFT in three ranges: 7 Hz – 215 Hz, 58 Hz – 1.72 kHz and 484 Hz – 20.5 kHz, with 143 bins on screen
  • RT60 in octave bands from 63 Hz to 8 kHz to ISO 3382 (Schroeder method); delay from 0 to 1 s (0 – 344 m) with 0.1 ms resolution; polarity via the internal microphone or the XLR/RCA input
  • XLR input with switchable +48 V phantom power and ASD sensor detection; removable 8 GB SD card with logging at selectable intervals, compressed WAV, voice notes and limit-exceedance monitoring; mini USB
  • 480 g and 180 × 90 × 45 mm; 3.7 V / 2260 mAh Li-Po battery (typically over 4 h) or 4 AA cells; IP51; 1/4" thread for a tripod or mic stand

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire the NTI XL2?

In Peak's catalogue the NTI XL2 is listed at €53 excluding VAT, and the NTI M4260 microphone appears as its own item at €23 excluding VAT. Ask what is included when you request a quote and availability for your dates.

What class of sound level meter is the NTI XL2?

It depends on the microphone. With the NTi M4260, also in the catalogue, the XL2 forms a Class 2 sound level meter to IEC 61672 (Type 2 to ANSI S1.4). NTi advises calibrating with an acoustic calibrator, typically 94 dB at 1 kHz, before and after measuring.

Can it monitor level limits at a live event?

Yes, NTi presents it for exactly that. With a preconfigured profile it logs the levels without further input, shows a red light when the limit is exceeded and can record a compressed WAV at the same time to review the periods over the limit later.
