About the Ortofon Concorde Scratch Twin
The Ortofon Concorde Scratch Twin is a pair of Ortofon Concorde Scratch turntable cartridges, aimed at turntablists and vinyl DJs who scratch. The Danish manufacturer designed the Concorde Scratch especially for scratching and back-cueing: spherical stylus, 4 g recommended tracking force and the Concorde design that plugs straight into the tonearm with no headshell. We offer Ortofon Concorde Scratch Twin hire in Madrid and across Spain: €30 ex VAT for the pair. Ask us for availability.
What it is rented for
Its place is the vinyl booth: turntablism battles and showcases, club and festival DJ sets, parties with decks and productions where the artist needs to scratch. It can be paired with the Technics 1200 MK7, 1210 M5G or 1200 M7L 50th Anniversary from our catalogue (Ortofon gives setup notes for Concorde cartridges on Technics 1200/1210) and with DJ mixers such as the Pioneer DJM 900 NXS2, which has four phono inputs. Order the pair with the rest of the booth equipment and we will put it all on the same quote.
Key specs
- Spherical stylus, 18 μm tip radius: the type Ortofon points to for heavy back-cueing and scratching, as it preserves more of the groove.
- 4 g recommended tracking force (3–5 g range), per Ortofon.
- Output: 7 mV on the original Concorde Scratch, 10 mV on the Concorde MKII Scratch (Ortofon figures).
- Mounts directly on the tonearm, no headshell: what sets the Concorde range apart from the OM range, according to Ortofon.
- Twin: two cartridges, one per turntable.
- Concorde design introduced by Ortofon in 1979 (Danish Industrial Design Award); second generation in 2018.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire the Ortofon Concorde Scratch Twin?
Hire of the pair of cartridges is €30 ex VAT. Ask for availability by phone, WhatsApp or email and, if you are putting together a vinyl booth, we will add it to the quote along with the rest of the equipment.
What kind of DJ is it designed for?
Ortofon designed the Concorde Scratch especially for scratching and back-cueing, with turntablists and scratch DJs in mind; its spherical stylus preserves more of the groove. If you prefer another model, our catalogue also has the Ortofon Concorde Club MKII Twin and the Concorde Nightclub II Twin.
Does it need aligning or any setup when fitted?
No headshell and no overhang adjustment, but Ortofon recommends checking tracking force (4 g recommended), tonearm height and anti-skating (0 for DJ use). On Technics 1200/1210 you may need to remove the small cylindrical sub-weight behind the counterweight: with it in place, only 2 g is reachable.
