About the PlayDifferently Model 1

The PLAYdifferently MODEL 1 is the 6-channel analogue DJ mixer engineered by Andy Rigby-Jones, co-designed by Richie Hawtin and built in the UK with partners Allen & Heath and DigiCo. It offers Drive on every input, hybrid EQ and a resonant Master Filter; it has no built-in effects processor (delay, reverb…): its performance effects are the master filter and Drive, and the sends/returns feed external processors. PLAYdifferently MODEL 1 hire in Madrid is our answer for DJs seeking a mixer rarely available for hire; we work across all of Spain.

What it is rented for

It is used in club booths, festivals, label showcases and hybrid sets mixing vinyl, CDJs and machines: channels 3, 4 and 5 accept turntables (RIAA phono) and the RCA or DB25 inputs take players and synths. From our catalogue it pairs with Technics 1210 M5G, Pioneer CDJ 3000, Roland TR-909 or Roland SH-101, with the AlphaTheta RMX Ignite on an aux send/return, and with Funktion One systems such as Res 2 SH and F218 MKII through its balanced XLR output. It also works as a compact studio desk or for electronic live acts.

Key specs

• 6 identical channels plus 2 stereo returns; purely analogue mixer with a fully balanced mix bus.
• Drive on every input: sets the preamp clip threshold to create harmonic distortion as an effect.

• Passive Master Filter with HPF, LPF and resonance, switched with zero-crossing detection.
• 2 aux sends per channel (AUX 1 pre/post) and 2 stereo returns for external processors.
• RCA inputs on all 6 channels (RIAA phono on 3, 4 and 5) plus Tascam DB25; Master 1 balanced XLR, Master 2 and Booth on TRS.
• Dual Cue A/B for two DJs, Mixer Link and external 24 V PSU; 5.40 kg, 37 × 32 × 11.5 cm.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to hire the PLAYdifferently MODEL 1 and what is included?

The hire price published on our website is €122 excluding VAT. Tell us the dates and venue of your event, in Madrid or anywhere in Spain, and we will confirm availability and a quote by phone, WhatsApp or email.

Does the MODEL 1 have built-in effects?

There is no built-in effects processor (delay, reverb…). Its performance effects are the Master Filter and the per-channel Drive; the two aux sends and two stereo returns are designed for connecting external processors, such as the AlphaTheta RMX Ignite from our catalogue.

Why is it so sought after and hard to hire?

It is the first product from PLAYdifferently, founded in 2016 by Richie Hawtin with Andy Rigby-Jones, former Allen & Heath designer, and on sale in Spain since 2017. Analogue circuitry, Drive and hybrid EQ have made it a fixture in the booths of DJs like Carl Cox or Loco Dice.
