About the Doepfer MCV4 MIDI-to-CV Interface
The Doepfer MCV4 MIDI-to-CV Interface turns MIDI messages into CV and Gate voltages so you can play vintage analogue or modular synths from a sequencer, a master keyboard or a DAW. It is the missing link when a synth has no MIDI, such as the Roland SH-101. Peak Entertainment offers Doepfer MCV4 MIDI-to-CV Interface hire in Madrid and across Spain for live shows, studio sessions and productions: a small converter you don't need to buy for a single date. Ask us for availability and a quote.
What it is rented for
Used at electronic live shows, studio sessions and showcases where an analogue synth with CV/Gate inputs has to be sequenced from current gear. In our catalogue it pairs naturally with the Roland SH-101, which has no MIDI: the MCV4 feeds it note, gate and pitch bend. The MIDI signal can come from a computer running your DAW — with controllers such as the Akai MPD218 or APC40 MKII plugged in — or from a hardware sequencer or keyboard with a MIDI output. To send the synth to the desk, add a Radial J48 mono or Radial Stagebug DI box.
Key specs
- 4 CV outputs, 0 to +5 V (8-bit, 1/4-semitone steps): CV1 note at 1 V/octave, CV2 aftertouch, CV3 volume (CC #7), CV4 any MIDI controller you choose.
- 5-octave range on CV1; pitch bend travel of up to ±1 V, i.e. ±1 octave.
- Gate/Trigger on a 6.35 mm mono jack: +5 V, supply voltage (+7 to +12 V) or S-Trigger via an internal jumper; normal or inverted polarity.
- MIDI In and MIDI Thru; highest-note, last-note or reference-note assignment; retrigger on legato can be switched on.
- Learn button sets the MIDI channel, the reference note (0 V) and the CV4 controller; settings are kept in non-volatile memory.
- External 7–12 V DC / 100 mA power supply; steel case of about 95 × 75 × 35 mm.
- Works with 1 V/oct synths (Moog, Roland, Sequential Circuits, Doepfer…); Hz/V synths (e.g. Yamaha, Korg) are not directly compatible.
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to hire the Doepfer MCV4?
The hire price of the Doepfer MCV4 MIDI-to-CV Interface is €5 excluding VAT. We hire it out in Madrid and across Spain; ask for availability and a quote for your date at info@peaksound.es or +34 636 410 986 (phone and WhatsApp).
Does it work with any analogue synthesizer?
With those that have CV/Gate inputs and follow the 1 V per octave standard (Moog, Roland, Sequential Circuits, Doepfer…). Synths with a Hz/V characteristic, such as some Korg or Yamaha models, are not directly compatible; Doepfer explains how to drive the Korg MS-10/MS-20 via V/oct. Check your synth's manual.
How do I connect the MCV4 to a Roland SH-101 or another synth?
A MIDI cable from the MIDI Out of your keyboard, sequencer or computer interface to the MCV4's MIDI In, plus jack cables from Gate and CV1 to the synth's Gate and CV inputs. Doepfer warns that many Roland synths use 3.5 mm mini-jacks: check your connector and plan for adapters.
